It all began in 1903....
Unity is proud of its history and tradition. Since its founding, Unity has remained focused on the future, drawing strength from the achievements of its illustrious past.

1903
Unity founded in Syracuse, New York and organized as a fraternal benefit society named Imperial Order Tycoons. The goal of Imperial Order Tycoons was to help families in times of distress caused by sickness, accidental injury, or accidental death.

1908
Imperial Order Tycoons changes its name to the Unity Insurance Society. Assets are $2,168; insurance in force is $154,682.

1918
Unity Insurance Society changes its name to the Unity Protective Insurance Association.

1928
The Unity Protective Insurance Association becomes the Unity Life and Accident Association. The Company celebrates its 25th Anniversary.

1933
Unity's first merger, with the Bavarian National Association, increases the Company's territory from one to seven states and brings assets to $750,000.

1939-1940
Unity's second and third mergers, with Fireside Mutual Aid Association, New Jersey, and the Order of German Americans, New York City, result in assets topping the $1 million mark.

1957
The Company changes its plan of operation from an association to that of a mutual life insurance company. A new charter is issued to the Unity Mutual Life Insurance Company of New York.

1983
Unity merges with Guarantee Mutual Life Insurance Company, Pleasantville, New Jersey.

1984
Unity forms a wholly-owned subsidiary, Univest Clinton, to become a partner in Congress Asset Management Company, a Boston-based asset management firm.

1985
Unity merges with Empire State Mutual Life Insurance Company, Jamestown, New York.

1987
Unity acquires controlling interest in Windsor Life Insurance Company of America, New York City.

Unity merges with Volunteer Firemen's Mutual Life Insurance Company, Spring Valley, New York.

1988
Windsor Life changes its name to Empire State Life Insurance Company.

Unity plays an integral part in the successful lobbying for the passage of the demutualization law in New York State.

1989
Unity merges with Progressive Life Insurance Company, Red Bank, New Jersey.

1991
Unity moves to new Corporate Headquarters in Syracuse's Franklin Square.

1993
Unity Celebrates its 90th Anniversary.

Unity merges with Eastern Mutual Life Insurance Company, Clifton, New Jersey.

Unity acquires Germantown Life Insurance Company, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Unity merges with its subsidiary Empire State Life Insurance Company.

1994
Unity is licensed in North Carolina and becomes one of the elite 1% of life insurance companies that are both domiciled in New York and licensed to do business in all 50 states.

1995
Unity acquires blocks of annuity and life insurance business from Consumers United Insurance Company of Washington, DC.

Unity challenges all other insurance companies in the U.S. and Canada to beat its high percentage of employees who have achieved the designation of Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) and wins hands-down.

Unity proudly has the highest percentage of FLMIs of any life insurance company in the U.S. and in Canada.

1997
Germantown Life Insurance Company begins filing Pre-Need and Final Expense products in various states.

1998
Germantown Life Insurance Company changes its name to Unity Financial Life Insurance Company.

Unity acquires Confidential Planning Corporation (CPC) of Hartsdale, New York. CPC is a financial services agency serving over 20,000 households throughout New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.

1999
Unity enters into a Coinsurance Agreement with Standard Security Life Insurance Company for the sale of the Volunteer Firefighters Division (VFD) block of business.

2001
Unity completes a major strategic investment with its subsidiary Unity Financial Life Insurance Company with Hardy, LLC. Hardy, LLC acquired 50% of the common stock of Unity Financial.

2002
Unity Financial Life Insurance Company establishes headquarters in Cincinnati, Ohio, however administrative services will continue to be provided in Syracuse, New York.
